News From The Front

2009-11-09

Do you like that Nerdcore Rising movie that Negin Farsad made about nerdcore and Frontalot and back spasms and PAX? So do we! And the recently released DVD is rife with short-format extras, features a printed paper insert, and maintains a general air of reassuringly non-biodegradable semi-permanence. But physical media is so – how you say? – passé. Finito. Kaputt. Thus it is with great satisfaction that we announce the availability of NR:TM on iTunes, for downloading and keeping. Grab that here if you want. It costs about ten bucks.

Or if ephemerality is so dear to you that stored data offends, stream it on Netflix instead.

Front’s headed to Williamsburg to do one secret song at the new Knitting Factory after Lev Grossman’s reading from his new novel. Running a little late, so find your own damn hyperlinks! Doors at five. Seeya there.

Voting’s open on the Feature Creep all-nerdcore song fight. Pick your favorite and put a vote in. Previews are on the contest page; links to full songs are within the little flash player for each preview. There’s plenty to love. Check it out!

Coulton and Frontalot sat down (Skyped down?) with the FourCast the other day. Here is what it sounded like.

Front’s back in New York, making the new album happen as best he knows how. Doggy Fresh is with him. Life is pretty good.

Front did a little bit of rapping for Fast Company recently. It is here. It is like an MBA program that you don’t have to pay for, where various luminaries teach you stuff in 30-second increments. Front’s seminar answers the question, “What meetings need to be face-to-face.” How businessy!

You seriously have like 48 hours left to get your All Nerdcore Song Fight song turned in. The song has to have the title “Feature Creep.” Beyond that, it’s up to you. Hurry the hell up.

Everything’s so autumnal lately. It is as though the clock ticks. Indeed! You have only a handful of days left to complete your Nerdcore Song Fight entry – get on it! Submissions due by Oct 15th, voting runs through Oct 31st. The title is “Feature Creep,” so that’s what your song has to be called. You can sing, you can rap, you can make multi-octave throat noises with complicated Solkattu clap patterning. Just get your song done soon! Winner wins a wonderful trip to see Front play.

What do we all win if healthcare reform is defeated? Probably a free tumor! That’s not a very good prize. Check out the wonderfully talented Negin Farsad’s current project, HAARM, which is (psssst, secret:) actually making fun of anti-reformists. Even though it is pretending to be on their side. Confusing, I know. Speaking of Negin, her fantastic movie about Frontalot and his fans, Nerdcore Rising, is so available. There are community-hosted screenings all over the place. Or sign up for Netflix and stream it right now.

Oh! And! The Store is brimming with new things. Our fancy crimson Final Boss tee is finally mail-orderable. There’s a new sticker pack, collecting the four classic vinyl stickers with two incredible new ones. And there’s a special on posters, whereby purchase of the three-pack earns you two otherwise unattainable ultra-collectible secret bonus posters. We would not use so many made-up marketing words if we did not have to pay rent. The full-album mp3/aac/flac store is totally open, now, too. Have at.

Podcasts? Sometimes they have MC Frontalot on them.

Ever wanted to make some nerdcore of your own? This is your most gigantic opportunity: a special all-nerdcore song fight hosted by the Nerdcore Rising: The Movie folks, and curated by MC Frontalot. Winner gets a free trip to come see Front rock a mic. Deadline is mid-october, so do not dilly-dally.

UPDATE! Vintage Vinyl in-store 9/26 is cancellated. Sorry, kids!

Recent news hyperlinks round up! Front plays KoL Con in AZ this weekend. Nerdcore Rising movie screenings abound; the distributor will gently bribe you to host your own. Sign up for Netflix and stream the movie right now. Front’s new full-album download store is open. Front’s song Origin Of Species just went up on Rock Band DLC. There’s a new single from Final Boss, called Diseases Of Yore. And Front’s bass player Bl4k Lotus has a new solo album, which is fresh.

Street dates! They are things with a funny phrase describing them! Are these romantic strolls through the street? Are they dates obtained on the street? Are we talking about the commerce surrounding an unnatural act with a street walker?

Sorry to disappoint. Take heart! This street date is a thousand times more awesome than prostitute sex. It is the street date of the Nerdcore Rising: The Movie fancy brilliant ultimate super-duper nationwide Digital Versatile Disc release day, which is today, and it’s almost tomorrow already and we haven’t mentioned it.

And on the topic of regrets: we apologize for how the frontalot.com news post got a little PG-13 there for a moment. Obviously you need no purring come-ons to understand that we’re shilling for the most fantastic piece of cinema ever committed to screen. Your arousal is palpable already.

Consummate in homes, pubs, theaters, civic centers. Not just today (“street date” day!!), but in the days to come, nerds everywhere are hosting their own screenings. Throw one practically anywhere; the distributor will shower you with freebies and the people who you invite over will think you are some kind of cinema mogul.

If that all sounds too terribly social to you, we can have the mailman discretely deliver a copy, either one of your very own or one lent from the Netflix library. That particular lending library is worth signing up for, just for the streaming. You could be streaming Nerdcore Rising to your computron this very second.

Calendar is updated (um, corrected) for KoL show in (um, near) Phoenix; it is now (um, has always been) Saturday the 19th. Be there!

Front’s song Origin Of Species is now available for Rock Band as DLC. So march over to your fancy console machine and download it. The song? It is a confoundingly deft bit of commentary if we do say so ourselves, yet we’re pretty sure you’ll succeed in parsing out The Reverend Aloud’s deeper ministerial intentions. If you adore such things, why not pick up the Secrets compact disc or hi-fi full-album download?

That is a nice thing about not having a record company to boss us around! Promote the latest album? Sure, here’s the new single! Promote the first album? Can’t think why not. The second one? We already did that in the previous paragraph, but we’ll do it some more! We’re just that free-spirited around here.

Folks who went to PAX have various memories that they put onto internet. If you happened across one mister Jhonen V’s description of the events, you will have found Frontalot’s true and secret identity (summary: Front = Ogre from RotN1). In the interest of fairness, yes, Jhonen has our MC pegged. But we can reveal things too. Example: Jhonen wears Sanrio bobbysocks, has a unicorn sticker on his vanity chest, and writes Hannah Montanna fanfic in longhand. We do not mean that he is girlish! Only that he has a certain bright innocence in his heart, and that it bubbles forth into giggles given any opportunity. Also, he is kind of shy about asking for hugs, so if you see him at a con just give him one!
