News From The Front

2015-01-14

Glad tidings to all nerd folk in this, the year of our fronting, two thousand and fifteen!

Our MC hopes you will keep track of him on his most active internetty feeds: the twidder, the fussbooks, thegurgle-plus, the tumbling, the insulargram, even il vino. Because he is not so good at keeping his site ‘news’ up to date.

So! What is even happening? There are two videos out from the new album, Question Bedtime: Gold Lockswhich features Jean Grae and Gabrielle Sterbenz, with cello magic from Unwoman, directed by BroSis at a terrifying cabin outside of Los Angeles; also the beautifully animated Shudders featuring Kid Koala and the Protomen, directed by Chad Essley. Two new Question Bedtime videos are brewing and will be on the yootoobs mighty soon. The album is here at frontalot.com, and on bandcamp, amazon, itunes, etc!

Front would be pretty psyched if you buy that album. He worked hard on it for three years! Also, his home got burgled a few weeks ago and he’s feeling a bit broke. The store has plenty of other stuff, if you’d prefer to keep getting your music beamed from the non-payin’ Spotify on the fly.

The band remains in recovery mode from the several months so recently spent on the road – and they thank you heartily for having stopped by to see them all over the USA, UK, and at PAX Australia. Speaking of PAXes…

Catch the gents funking everything sideways at the innaugural PAX South on Jan 23, then at PAX East on the weekend of March 6th. There are a handful of remaining Pinny Arcade pins to acquire, weird new con-only merch, and all sorts of elbow bumps and photo opportunities to be had at the Bandland booth. Front loves to meet you there. Get met.

Front’s also headed to SCaLE Feb 19-22 in Los Angeles for a show with DJ CPU. It will be the debut of some brand new version of that venerable DJ, as the most recent one got swiped in the aforementioned burglary. Burglaries: not that great!

Thank you, and good evening.

Happy Halloween! BoingBoing debuts the appropriately themed new video from Question Bedtime, for the song Shudders featuring Kid Koala on the turntables and and Gambler & Panther from the Protomen on chorus vocals. It is animated by the amazing Chad Essley and you can see it right now. Seek also your free download of the mp3 and m4a on the music page.

Halloween seems also an apropriate time to repost the first Question Bedtime video, for Gold Locks featuring Jean Grae. What terrors await a young cub around bedtime? Discover within.

And perhaps you will be further creeped out by a bunch of dancing backup Fronts in New Relic’s new video for Small Data? We seem to have cornucopia of audiovisual candycorn for you today, dear viewer.

Front is in Australia for Halloween, to perform Saturday night at the second PAX Australia. But he has so much more to tell you. When he has a chance.

San Diego Comic-Con approaches! You must (must) join Front, Lars, Awk, Schaffer, and the burlesque stylings of Devil’s Playground. Tickets remain available. Your MC will also appear on the floor of the con, though mercurially. Mark your schedules: Front vends and signs at the Dumbrella booth (#1337, really) from 1:30-3PM on Saturday and Sunday. And that’s it!

Do we know when Front’s new album, Question Bedtime, becomes available? We do! It is August 26th.

Front is very close to finishing his sixth album. Are you excited? You should be excited.

Express that excitement by purchasing some tickets for this summer’s freshly-announced concerts in San Diego(Comic-Con), Vegas (DEF CON), and Orlando (Nerd Fest). Details, as usual, adorn the gig calendar.

Here’s another exciting thing: Front was invited to do a li'l cameo on the upcoming Mike Doughty album, Stellar Motel. You have a month left to get in on the fancy-style crowdfunding of that project.

Oh! And David Malki is hiring animators to work on a secret(?) MC Frontalot video that he’s making. You shouldbug him about that if you do animations and you like work.

Front and the whole band and some robots grace the stage at PAX East pretty soon! They are lined up for the Saturday Night concert. But! You should cancel all your Boston-leaving plans afterward, because the gang teams up with Random and The World Is Square for an After-PAX blowout at Great Scott on Monday the 14th. Tickets?Tickets!

This week our salty old MC lounges in Berkeley with Ma Front and Doggy Fresh, nursing his fallen arches and reminiscing on the lovely week he so recently had in Austin for SXSW. Can we believe that he has made that journey seven times now? Good lord. This year he caught performances by his Nerdcore Showcase compatriots Random, Schaffer the Darklord,
Jesse Dangerously,
MC Lars,Dr Awkward,
More or Les, Tribe One,
Adam Warrock, and
Teenburger, as well as all these fine folks: Doug Funnie, The Returners, Tonight The Moon Tomorrow The Sun, Big Freedia, IQ, Flosstradomus, Mother Falcon, Hieroglyphics, Souls of Mischief, Dams, Wheelchair Sports Camp, Sage Francis, M. kHill, Timbuktu, Milo, Open Mike Eagle, Nocando, Busdriver, Rittz, Tech N9ne, and the Stapletones. As Front left town, there was also one singer/songwriter clinging to the fuselage (like in the Twilight Zone movie) but nobody caught his bandname.

Front is working extra hard on his next album, Question Bedtime. It is a collection of fairy tales and folk stories from all over the place! You will use it to menace children, amuse adults, and keep beverages from blemishing wooden table surfaces. More on all this nonsense soon, probably.

For now, content yourself with the new Nocando LP, the third episode of Life With Jeannie, the fresh new mc chris double album, the KS/IGG campaigns for Lars’s impending album and Sole’s newest project, the Patreon campaigns of Frontal Allied Forces Octopus Pie and Scenes From A Multiverse, Ran’s latest video, and whatever foolishness Front posts on Vine.

Long time, no chit chats! Front is deep in the throes of makin’ a rekkid, and he hopes you’ll all help see him through.

Soon? Take a peek at Front & the Sturgenius rocking SXSW, then the whole band at PAX East! Details will slowly yet certainly accumulate on the Gig Calendar.
