News From The Front

2011-03-03

PAX is just around the corner! Front and bandmates rock the Friday night program (3/11) with Metroid Metaland the Protomen. And you can get your fill of handshakes, signatures, and merchy goodness (including an exclusive PAX'11 poster) at Front’s booth in Bandland all weekend long.

Immediately afterward? South By Southwest! This year’s official nerdcore showcase is Tuesday night (3/15), in order to overlap with SXSWi, and is open to all stripes of SXSW badgeholder. If you are not thusly enstripened, stay tuned for two free Austin shows, Friday (3/18) at the Highball and Saturday (3/19) at El Cedro. Details adorn the gig calendar; seek them there.

New nerdcore albums! The ThoughtCriminals have just put out Cold Winter, and Random (AKA MegaRan) has dropped his Black Materia, a whole disc of FFVII beats. Both artists in the SXSW showcase, so come prepared.

Speaking of new nerdcore albums, MC Frontalot is hard at work on one. It won’t appear until late August, though, so you’d better purchase some extra copies of his earlier efforts to keep him in rent and cheesy poofs while he toils.

What can we tell you about this next album? Only that it is going to solve everything. Oh, and the brilliant Ms. Kristen Schaal will stop by for a skit. If you are not watching (hearing!) her on Bob’s Burgers, you are likely at some point to suffer from crippling regret.

Speaking of regret, Front already feels bad about having made this little dance edit of Charlie Sheen’s radio meltdown on Alex Jones last week. The Sturgenius on drums.

Oh and hey! Jhonen V’s fantastic Zero Day cover, in a fancy, slimy new color scheme, is a beautiful and shiny poster, on sale at Topatoco. And Len Peralta’s Geek-A-Week trading cards are on sale at ThinkGeek, and Front’s in the inaugural set. Front’s own feeble scrawlings remain free. That’s the news for now. Be safe out there and remember, only play lotto to win.

2011-02-02

Front is doing some jury duty in Brooklyn, buuuddy. But he flees the long arm of the law this weekend to perform at WTH!Con in Greensboro, NC. That’s at 5:30PM on Saturday 2/5, and it is free. Don’t miss!

Other upcoming con-based Frontalot excitement includes: PAX East (3/11), SXSW Austin (3/15), Anime Boston (4/24), and Penguicon (Troy, MI) (4/28). Mark those calendars.

More nowishly… it’s Rock Band Network time again! The new tracks are Hassle: The Dorkening and Bizarro Genius Baby. You can play them in your home, on your XBOX. If enough of you do that, they’ll migrate to PS3 as well. So? Do.

Catch Front on Gothamist the other week? So many words.

Oh! And Blak Lotus has written and recorded a moment-by-moment literalization of the Spoiler Alert video. So now there are three versions: Max Isaacson’s vivid original video, Blak Lotus’s literal audio set against it, and Dakota Miller’s literal imagery set against the real song.

Finally? Let’s all welcome Vic-20 to New Yawk City! He has arrived, for the good.

Our MC has ventured down to Greensboro NC for a video shoot with a gaggle of cheerful young filmmakers. Will there be robots? Severed limbs? Futuristic bunkers? Supporting actor nominations for ytc and dual core? Is this to be a video for the title track from Zero Day? Yes on all counts.

Did you catch Front on The Takeaway the other morning? If not, there’s so much internet these days, one needs barely worry about experiencing things when they occur. There’s a fresh new second video for Spoiler Alert – this one will appeal to the more literal-minded among you. It is a fan editing effort (by Dakota Miller) and you should spread it far and wide. Do not, however, neglect the original official Spoiler Alert video (by Max Isaacson), which is a triumph and has rocket bears.

While we’re reviewing the videoey goodness from the current Zero Day album, Shawna Mills’s fantastic First World Problem video remains totally viewable, tweetable, emailable, blog-embeddable, etcetra-ble.

2010-09-09

MP3 or AAC file is ripe for the download, and the video, a seething masterwork of monster invasion and flying commando bear defense, is housed exclusively at Kotaku for the rest of the day. Speaking of touring, did you hear that Front will join Schaffer the Darklord for a week of mc chris shows in November? You’ll want to know more. You will know more. Patience, young jedi.

As if these newsflashes, short films, and audio entertainments were not enthralling enough, let us pause to remember the incredible PAXiness so recently concluded. There are photos and photos and photos, filmedevidence of our good MC’s inability to keep the meme infestation at bay, and a Ken Flagg (AKA Vic-20) tour diary or two to wrap things up. As ever, Front extends his deepest thanks to the Penny Arcade staff, the Enforcers, and the thousands of fans who make it all rock so hard.
