News From The Front

2012-10-09

New York Comic-Con! Come say hi to Front at his signing, won’t you? It is from 4-5 PM on Saturday, at the B9 Kingdom booth (#166). Thanks to Frank & Becky for hosting.

As you read this, there may be a few moments left to get 1-day passes to PAX East. Sometimes Front plays the Friday show; on other occasions he plays the Saturday program. Which to choose? You probably want both.

Front’s back home in Brooklyn for a while! A nice long while. But he was so recently among the Kingdom of Loathing folk in Phoenix, and his voice echoes through their internetty passageways.

While you’re listening to that, go ahead and watch all of Raiders Of The Lost Arc in 257KB.

XOXO! It was such a lovely time. Front and bandmates extend their thanks to the Andys and everyone elese who made it happen. Check out some pics, and Adam Savage’s presentation. See you next time, Portland!

This weekend (9/21-9/23), Front (and Bl4k Lotus, Vic-20, Sturgenius) descend upon the KoL Annual Shindig for some Phoenixtacular confabulations. The rapping is Saturday night, with Random and Treasure Mamal. Open to the public, with tickets available at the door! Deets on cal.

Next weekend? Ohio Linuxfest! It is where Front will rap against the sterling accompaniment of DJ CPU. It is where Front will feel dumber than everybody in the crowd, since his ability to do things in Linux goes about as far as ls. Maybe he’ll learn something. Join him in that pursuit.

Front is very grateful to the PAX folks (enforcers! attendees! artists! alla youse!) for his twelfth wonderful opportunity to rock the main stage. If you didn’t happen to be there, you can check it out on twitch.tv’s archive. The evening’s music includes Paul & Storm, Jonathan Coulton, and your own MC Frontalot, starting at 41 mins.

Finally announced: the first-ever XOXO Fest in Portland, OR. Front plays the music evening on Friday night (9/14) with the Limousines, Julia Nunes, and the Kleptones. Of course, it is already sold out. Sorry about that.

Don’t forget about the New Relic party at TechCrunch Disrupt SF, the Kingdom Of Loathing Con in Phoenix, or Ohio Linux Fest! All this month’s con action is detailed below (and on the info page).

It’s con season, kids!

Penny Arcade Expo! The Prime example thereof. Join Front and the band on Saturday night at the Paramount in Seattle if you already have a badge for PAX. If not, we weep for you and urge you to hire robots to snipe the ticket sales next year. OR! See if you can still get a ticket to the Scott & Kris show on Sunday night, where Front is likely to do a few numbers with DJ CPU and also chit-chat onstage with the boys.

The fine folks at New Relic are bringing Front and bandmates to San Francisco for their wild Monday night (9/10) party during TechCrunch. It’s at Mighty in the eveningtime, and you ought to come if you have a TechCrunch Disrupt badge.

All these things that you need badges for! We know, we know. Next up is an extremely secret conferencesomewhere in the USA. We should be able to revise this paragraph with actual information on Weds. But yeah. Badges are already sold out.

Ooo, but check this one out: Kingdom Of Loathing’s con hosts Front and band in Mesa, AZ, on Saturday 9/22. And they tend to let the public in at the door! Saints, we tell you. They’re saints over there in the Kingdom.

Finally? Ohio Linux Fest! Front and DJ CPU rock it out with the proper nerd folk in Columbus on Saturday 9/29. More details on that one soon.

The first-ever Humble Music Bundle is on sale, for whever you might like to pay. It contains new albums by They Might Be Giants, OK Go!, Jonathan Coulton, Christopher Tin, and Hitashi Sakimoto. Oh, and Frontalot! our MC has compiled 20 of his favorite tracks from his five albums, provided them in MP3 and FLAC formats, and written a ridiculous 6,000-word liner notes document as accompaniment. Go download it, and spread the word.

DEF-CON, you are twenty years old! To celebrate, MC Frontalot will come and rap at your pool party, then again with his whole band at your big Friday concert. Here’s hoping there’s cake.

San Diego! Comic-Con comes to bloat your downtown with high IQs and low deoderant consumption statistics. Prepare! Be ready to visit Front all weekend long at booth 1337 (of course) with all his lovely Dumbrella compatriots. And get your tickets for his Ruby Room show on Saturday night (7/14) with MC Lars, Dr. Awkward, burlesque dancin’, and more.

Will there be a surprising other performance somewhere around the con? It is possible.

Then! Front’s off to Las Vegas and DEF-CON to lose himself amongst even higher IQs. No deoderant required; these are people who hacked their own underarm bacteria so that it no longer produces stank but rather bitcoins.Front rocks a solo set at the opening night pool party (with ytcracker, Dual Core, et al), then brings the whole darn band to town for the Friday (7/27) show ahead of Mochipet. All this is free to badgeholders. Be one.

Frontalot wishes you good weather and good health from his brief springtime retreat in California. Does he perform? No, he hangs out with Ma Front and Doggy Fresh and about a thousand boxes of fresh blueberries.

This Friday (6/15)! Live, on internet! It’s a reddit IAmA with your favorite MC. Starts at noon Pacific (3PM Eastern) and continues till whenever. You like? You participate.

Oh, and the next time Front comes to California it’ll be for Comic-Con. He exhibits with Dumbrella (at booth #1337, natch) and performs with Random, Lars, Awk, and other sterling compatriots at the Ruby Room that Saturday night (7/14).

Speaking of San Diego, if you’re there right now, check out frontal keyboardmaster Gm7’s latest musical “Nobody Loves You” before it closes its premier run at The Old Globe. The NY Times has already called it “delightful” and Front keeps calling it “fukken hilarious.”

There are (as of this posting) several days left to get The Kingdom’s next game (Word Realms!) funded over at Kickstarter. Front (and your friends Wil, Felicia, & Hodgman) will be Easter Eggs if the project gets overfunded.

Check out which nerd only barely belongs on this typographic mapping of New York rappers.

Sorry about how PAX Prime sold out already. Maybe we should just enter a sort of permanent state of PAX and you folks can drop in whenever.

PAX! What glorious fun it seemed. The rapper and his bandmates extend their thanks to every enforcer, everyattendee, the HD troll and goblin team who construct the thing in question, and Khoo who tirelessly churns the crank. See Front onstage via one of the many crowd-captured video snippets, watch him chat with Fuse or XBLA, or just ponder him in puppet form like you’ve been doing.

In Brooklyn? Don’t miss Frontalot’s May 4th show with Wheatus, Math The Band, Schaffer The Darklord, and Jetblack Bullseye. Tickets abound, but perhaps won’t for long, so purchase  posthaste.

Penny Arcade Expo East! Fast is how it approaches. Front and bandmates take the stage Saturday night with beloved compatriots Jonathan Coulton, Paul & Storm, and the Video Game Orchestra. Please note that Front’s set occurs at one in the morning, and that if you cannot navigate the lines at the early part of the evening’s proceedings, you are sure to have an easy time wandering right in around the beginning of the rapping portion.

If you can’t make PAX (or can’t ever get enough geek muzex), stop by the Middle East in Cambridge the Monday following for a double dose: MC Frontalot and the Protomen rock the downstairs on the 9th. Tickets! Get one.

Our ill-rested MC is recently returned from South By Southwest in sun-dappled Austin, TX. There he performed with Jess Klein, Jesse Dangerously, Schaffer the Darklord, the ThoughtCriminals, Teenburger, Thesis Sahib, Adam WarRock, More Or Les, Brandon Patton, Random, ytcracker, MC Lars, Math The Band, Peelander-Z, and seemingly countless others (actually 14 others). Whew! In between shows he managed to attend performances by the Shins, Busdriver, El-P, the Magnetic Fields, Fiona Apple, EPMD, Bad Rabbit, Das Racist, War On Drugs, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Bear In Heaven, Reggie Watts, Sleigh Bells, the Black Belles, and Jean Grae. Oh, and comedy from Hodgman, Mirman, Schaal, Kyle Kinane, Kurt Braunohler, and a dozen more. SXSW: it is like a whole thing. You should check it out some time. Front and the band extend their thanks to Barcamp Austin, Lynda, Plaidlad, and the Andersons for making the whole thing possible.

Pick up the new SPIN! It has a fantastic spread on webcomics with quotes from frontal allies Onstad, Beaton, and the PA crew.

There are three videos from Solved, so far. Watch each one.
