News From The Front

2008-11-10

We trust that you already know Front is in Minneapolis tonight. To rock a show! But did you know that Lincoln is tomorrow? That Denver and The Springs follow? Learn these things from the tour calendar.

Negin Farsad is on the tour with Frontalot and Co! She’ll be showing Nerdcore Rising in Wilmington, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Portland. San Francisco is even happening the day before the Oakland concert. Know all at the movie’s site.

All the pre-orders of Final Boss went out last week and ought to be in spinning in your optical media readers right now. If yours hasn’t shown yet, login to your paypal and check the address you keep on file. It was wrong, wasn’t it? Contact the shopkeep to proceed.

Front will be spending the next couple weeks crying tears of joy, taking occasional breaks to rock the stage every night. Come watch. Also, he does not have to play Special Delivery any more. And won’t.

Happy democracy day, United States Citizens! By a happy accident, it is the same day that Final Boss (the new MC Frontalot album) is released. So you can now buy it and have it. Capitalism at work! Frontalot hopes we hire the socialist guy to be president. But buy Final Boss anyhow.

Election super party tonight at eight, with Front, Lars, YT, and all of you who are able to be in Jersey to see them rap & announce returns from the stage. After the show we will all sit and raise a glass, watching the mighty landslide thunder down. Unless the forces of evil jinx the machinery. Fingers crossed.

2008-10-31

Tour launch Saturday! It is in Long Island. And it is an hour earlier than we’ve been previously pretending that it would be. See us there at 7PM for YT’s opening set! Lars and Front take the stage at 7:20. Doors are in the late afternoon, and there are a billion bands on the bill. Believe it!

2008-10-26

The tour! New dates getting filled in constantly! Be there! And talk to us about street teaming, if you’re willing and able.

Front and Lotus are frantically putting all the tourlicious things together. The Sturgenius, YT, and Lars: all headed into the frontal rehearsin’ annex for to prepare. Gm7 is training up our secret Slavic weapon to fill in on keys. On-the-road pnwage impends! The award-winning Ms. Farsad is prepping many tour towns for Nerdcore Rising: The Movie showings along the way (not to mention figuring out how to be in Boston and Minneapolis for dual screenings this very Wednesday).

Oh and hey, that election is aparently still happening. Please join us in Teaneck after you’ve voted — we’ll announce returns from the stage, make lame politics jokes, rock a couple of your favorite protest numbers, and have us a whole democratic-process whoopdeedoo!

Another thing! Front is all over the various videos in this Atlantic Project documentary whatever-it-is.

2008-10-10

Well, the gigantic news is that you can get your hands on a nice, clean, legal copy of the one and only Nerdcore Rising: The Movie movie, in DVD format, for like twenty bucks and change. So you should do that.

While you’re in a spendy mood, of course the upcoming Frontalot album Final Boss is still in presales, and a presale earns you a prelisten, by which we mean immediate download (by which we mean almost-immediate download, contingent on paypal robots being hell of prompt).

We are not joking around about this Wallflowers video contest! There are only three entries so far. We want there to be like a hundred zillion before the end of the month. The prizes will include: every piece of merch in the store (seriously, one of everything) and a brand new MC Frontalot freestyle rap about how awesome you are, which he will record and mail to you. Is that not worth the small embarrassment of having the internet see your dance moves? It so is (worth) (that).

Pick up Top 10 this month if you want to see MC Frontalot’s cameo as “Buzz,” an unassuming youngster who goes all Shazaam on some folks. Front’s mom makes an appearance too. Also, if you are one of the people who wrote/drawed Front into this comic, please drop us a mail so we can be all like OMGWTF THAT WAS AWESOME KTHX.

And… is there an election going on or something? Front’s man is called Barry Hussein and you can help his Nerds For Obama gateway rake in its target of $1337 right here. The other place to put political help dollars is No On 8. It’s the proposition where they wanto to take weddings away from homos in California. Bunk!! Front’s feelings on the subject are well documented.

Our MC is returned after another wild year amongst the wonderful KoL folks and then a stop in Stephenville, TX, to lecture the young'ns at the University on how to be a nerd rapper. Step one: have a yootoobs video contest!

Here’s how it works! You get the new single (it is called Wallflowers) and you read the words and you think “this dance doesn’t make very much sense,” and then you realize “that means this dance is open to wild interpretation!” at which point you develop your own wild interpretation, commit it to video, put it on teh youtoobs or vimeo or anywhere else, and finally you embed it in a post on the contest thread or just mail a link to MC Frontalot and he’ll post it for you. Actually the very final step is that you win fabulous prizes. If yours is the entry that made MC Frontalot the most happy.

Here’s Jason Scott’s version, which he filmed at PAX in order to inspire you. Yours does not have to be as fancy as his. It could be much less fancy. Or it could be hundreds of times fancier! The main thing that we want is for there to be no other content available on any video sharing site besides entries for this very contest. Which means you’ll need to upload a lot of these things. We’re accepting entries until Nov 1st so get wiggling.

Also on our radar this week: Nerdcore Rising is playing in various spots around the country (and inCanada?); the band and movie were featured on MSNBC.com; Front’s full hour of yapping on Shift Radio isposted; Dude & Catastrophe remains available on Rock Band; our MC is going to be on NPR’s The Dinner Party Download this weekend; sometime frontal illustrationist Campbell Whyte’s got a brill new strippy; and you should seriously, we mean for real though, try not to front too much when you’re driving.

The new MC Frontalot album, Final Boss, is pre-orderable for its Nov 4 release. And if you pre-order it now, you get to pre-listen to it for the whole month and a half while you’re waiting for your mail carrier. Yes, indeedy: buy a CD, download it right away. Just like you always wanted. The album page has plenty of teaser mp3s, performance credits, and your purchasing options.

The first single, Wallflowers, is available in full (mp3)(aac)(ogg)(lyric). It’s all about a new dance craze called The Margaret Thatcher. You will endeavor to win the contest for most-awesomest yootoob video set to this song. Will other people endeavor towards the same end? Will there be more toob vids of Wallflowers than there are of The Soulja Boy? Seems unlikely. Contest info and Jason Scott’s kickass seeder vid to be posted soon.

If you’re anywhere near Phoenix, get yourself to see MC Frontalot, MC Lars, and The Minibosses, all on stage for KoL Con’s concert night, Sat the 27th at The Clubhouse in Tempe. Deets on the calendar. If you’re anywhere near a computer (we think you probably are), get yourself into the Kingdom for some adventure.

If you’re at University of Maryland, we think tonight might be your last chance to see Nerdcore Rising: The Movie on your campus big screen. But if you’re in Arkansas, you can see it in October at Hot Springs Documentary Film Fest, along with a Frontalot performance. Or if you’re in Edmonton, Canada, in a couple weeks, or… wait a minute, you can keep track of screenings on this handy page at nerdcorerising.com. Convenience exemplified!

We hear that the weird PS3 issue with Front’s Rock Band download has been cleared up via patching. But we can’t promise that based on first-hand intel since nobody around here can afford a PS3.

Frontalot is home from PAX. PAX? Oh yeah, that was just some little get together that a couple of gamer kids had last weekend. We’re sure you weren’t missing anything. Except for like the awesomest video game expo on the face of this or (we’re assuming) any planet! Front and company did a respectable job of hip-hopifying the Saturday night show, with Anamanaguchi, Darkest of the Hillside Thickets, and the ever-lovin’ Minibossesholding down all the rocking and rolling duties. Friday night, Front was visible in the audience (well, the fancy beanbaggy section of the audience), for the OneUps, Freezepop, and Jonathan Coulton sets. Speaking of Coulton, did we mention that he’s on the new MC Frontalot album? Yeah, that’s the same new album you’re not allowed to buy until Nov 4th. But here’s some previewy toobage from that PAX thing we were just talking about.

Everyone’s asking about the tour. November 1st through December 13th. Everywhere. Those our the two answers we’ve got so far. Stand by for more.

Hey, go download Dude & Catastrophe for Rock Band! It is available as part of the PAX pack, with Coulton and the Thickets. Usually when we tell you to go download something, we mean in your web browser. But this time we mean on your console of choice.

And finally, see some awesome gigantic pictures of all the nerdcore superstars in this month’s Blender. And a li'l picture of Frontalot, too. It’s their vital-to-all-humanity Nerdapalooza ‘08 coverage, yet they decided to go with Pussycat Dolls for the cover. A letter to the editor is perhaps warranted.

Ms. Farsad gets ready for PAX, by forcing MC Frontalot to appear with her in this amusing video. Its essential message is this: don’t miss the documentary’s west coast premiere at 4PM on Saturday in the big old convention hall. The band gets ready for PAX, mostly by rehearsing numbers from the new record (Diseases of Yore, Shame Of The Otaku, Tongue-Clucking Grammarian, plus the title track). The new record! The new record! Presales begin shortly. Until then, drool over the cover art by Scott C.

Speaking of PAX, did we mention that Front and band blow the roof off the sucker on Saturday night? Do what you must to secure your wristbandy goodness. If it is impossible for you to attend PAX, but you’re going to be in Seattle that weekend anyhow, come see Front’s secret appearance at the high-caliber nerdcore show Thurs night. It’s so secret that we have failed to put it on the gig calendar – but not so secret that we’d actually go without mentioning it. Thu Aug 28, at High Dive, doors around 9p, with Optimus Rhyme, The Goondocks, and from what we hear, MC Lars and YTCracker. Front will be oiling up his whole PAX set, so stop by to catch all the missed lyrics and off-key singing before they are banished forever.

What other exciting things are new (and exciting)? How about this badass Wordburglar video? What say you to the brand new Random album, with a guest appearance by Frontalot (on the track Reset Button)? How about an XBOX 360? What, you’re not getting a new xbox? Oh, right. Front is! He’s waited long enough. He needs to be primed and ready to play Rock Band in a couple weeks when Dude & Catastrophe gets released for it as DLC. Also, his PS2 is old enough to drink in some countries and it no longer reads discs without daily dissassembly and laser alignment massage. If you want to help him into the now, join Front’s VSP.
