Ask An Actual Girl #1

1) What's the best way to start a conversation with a random, never-before-encountered Actual Girl?

Ask her about herself. Actually listen to the answers. Rinse, wash, repeat.

2) Why wear things with hoods if you never wear the hoods?

They frame the face nicely and keep the neck warm. And how can you be so sure that they never wear the hoods?

3) How can you tell if colors match?

Black and white are safe choices, but they’re pretty boring. Denim goes with just about anything. If you want to get more complex, here’s an excellent color tutorial.

4) What the hell is the difference between a shirt and a blouse?

What the hell is up with all the clothing questions? A blouse is a kind of shirt that extends to the waist or slightly below. Blouses usually have buttons and fit loosely. Only old ladies use the term “blouse” in normal conversation.

5) Do you think "I am one-quarter unicorn" is an effective pick up line?

No.

6) I'm in a very awesome relationship, and I'm kind of afraid of getting TOO geeky! She's trying her best at understand the Geek Culture, but I'm afraid of totally going overboard to the point where she's just going to say "Screw it" and leave me. I think I scared her when I said "I'm going to build a computer just for you!" How do I make sure that I don't lose her to a jock?

Three cheers for being in an awesome relationship! But whether you’re obsessed with hit points or point spreads, any lady is bound to lose interest if that’s all you ever talk about. Remember to show your girlfriend that you’re interested in the whole range of what life has to offer…including her. If she likes modern art more than computers, talk to her about Motherwell as well as motherboards. If she loves hockey, take her to a game and cheer along. As long as she knows that you’re a multifaceted human being who cares about her – and she doesn’t have a juvenile fixation with seeming cool – she’ll probably appreciate your incredible brain power and general geekery.
