LET'S BE REAL - [insert random babble here] |

Let's be real - I can't remember ever being as angry as I became while watching Borat. (The scene where he's having dinner with 3 couples, and says to the husband's of two of the ladies, "In my country, they would go crazy for these two", then indicating the third says, "This one... not so much...".)

Let's be real - That whole bloody movie made me angry. Not because it was offensive, but because it just seemed unfunny and poor in taste.

Let's be real - Still, plenty of people will see Sacha Baron Cohen's next film, about.... a gay person? A fashion model?
Also, that scene where Borat goes to a rodeo is pretty funny. The audience cheers when Borat says he supports America's war of terror. Aha! N1ghtbr1ng3r wrote:

Thus, being on track in my thread means being off-track, but if you are on-track on the track then you need to get off-track. XD Quiz - one of the more active LBR thread posters. |

Let's be real - "bitch" is a distasteful pejorative whether it's used to dehumanize women or feminize men.
(Let's be real - people love getting told stuff like this!) Let's be real - I love the word "pejorative". |

Let's be real - I am an admitted sesquipedalianist.

P.S. Whether or not it makes anyone feel any better, my post which got everyone upset was meant only in a very "tongue in cheek" manner. |

Let's be real - I'm not as sagacious as I'd like to perceive myself as being. :(

The genius of Borat is not his ignorance, boorishness, misogyny and racism, but the way the people he encounters respond to these character traits. How they will accept any outlandish thing he says about his nation as truth. How they will agree with him as he compares women to slaves or animals. He held a mirror up to less savory parts of U.S. society in a way that was extremely clever and incisive. But with that first scene he crossed the line into stereotyping the Kazakhstani people themselves for a few cheap gags. It's the same with Bruno. Or with Ali G. The characters are ridiculous, even cartoonish. The humor lies in the fact that despite their unbelievability, people take them at face value. But when Cohen loses track of that, he's no longer making clever satire but base, exploitative humor. |

Though I do agree with you on the opening scene in regards to the ethnocentrism and blatant exploitative humour Cohen throws at the Kazakhstani. I don't think he was very "clever" for proving our society has fault-lines larger than the Ring of Fire. Honestly, pick up any American History book or head over to Wikipedia. The info on our bullshit is kind of right there. :/ But eh, I'm getting on-topic again. Let's be real - Amon Amarth > a good portion of Melodic Death Metal bands. |

Prev> I wasn't upset, homie, it's just something I've been thinking about for a while and you gave me an opportunity to mention it. It wasn't supposed to be personal!
phreak> I would say "QFT" except I didn't quote you. But you are absolutely on-point with what you're saying. Let's be real! |

Let's be real - I've considered making "Let's Be Real - " bumper stickers.

Let's be real - those who don't already know this should go watch the Back to the Future trilogy. If you don't, you're a chicken.
Edit: Or is it just "you're chicken"? "Your chicken" ? No, I prefer "You're a chicken". Let's be real - if time travel was involved it would be yore chicken! |

Let's be real - would you eat yore chicken?

Also -> Let's Be Real - I almost didn't post what I posted in the unsexiest man of the year thread for fear that my humorous intent would be missed simply due to the presence of a five letter word starting w/ B. How's that for staying on *and* off track? ;) |
